Android, the google OS has grown like a user friendly virus ever since the T- Mobile G1 of 2008. To celebrate the new release of Android on Verizon, they decided to trash the iPhone and everything it stands for. It's a great concept, but watching it felt like watching the fifth installment of the Alien movies. (The scary music, seriously?) The ad is visually brilliant, but I think Ridley Scott could have directed a better one.

Just to cite, all of this was in a forwarded email I received. Viral video meets crazy driver.

On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris . The film was limited for technical reasons to 10 minutes; the course was from Porte Dauphine , through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur.

No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit.

The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly 140 MPH in some stretches. The footage reveals him running real red lights, nearly hitting real pedestrians, and driving the wrong way up several one-way streets.

Upon showing the film in public for the first time, Lelouch was arrested. He has never revealed the identity of the driver, and the film went underground until a DVD release a few years ago.

The video can actually be found on the web, right here. A note to the faint of heart, this made me get a bit shaky. It's so fast it's scary. On the brighter side, you can point out all the famous sights in Paris to your kids! Just don't eat before watching.

I've always had strange handwriting, and have been told to "make it a computer font" several times. Well, now you can (if you are bored and have a scanner.) So far, nothing that interesting has happened on the MSNBC inauguration. But Aretha Franklin, Yo Yo Ma and Itzach Pearlman are supposedly playing later.

It's kind of interesting that Bush has a 20% approval rating, whereas Obama has an 80%. Haya!

The swearing in is at noon. Watch it. Or Else. Obama seem pretty proud in the motorcade now, but I bet Bush is happier.

I keep on hoping Obama won't be stupid enough to get us in another war, but the guy seems to know what he's doing. There are over 60 million people there, over 20,000 security guards (that's all) and about 10,000 portable restrooms. I wonder how that turns out. Let's hope we see blue today.

(Good thing there are a lot of dumb things to do in Phillidelphia.) And By the way, I am not photoshopping or doctoring these photos. These were really things to do. Not to say I did them. Franklins Eyes was surprisingly not an eyeglass shop, but an exhibit on Benjamin Franklin's life for 6 year olds. For the less-advanced 6 year olds you could have no-kidding food with a no-kidding person who gets payed a million dollars/hour. Like the Benjamin Franklin episode of the Office. Anyone see that? No, okay. But I liked the BOI (bovine of Independence) with the constitution written on it. Hmmm....

Come on, Bob Dylan! 20,000 People were all around us now so it was impossible to move, it finally happened though , so I got some good photos from the crowd and the lounge. It was impossible to do because so many people were standing in front of you and jumping, so I got some rough shots.The only song I recognised (which is hard because his strange vocals are older and raspier now) was Rainy Day Women 12 & 35. The others were ones from his albums in the 80s and such. Sniff. The concert was FANTASTIC, and totally worth going to. Wish I could have met him... :)

You get a lovely view of everything, and they have free food!!!! Including these great delicious Marshmallow Banana things, sadly, I'm a vegetarian.
Here is the view out, from in. Once you are out there, you want to be in and vice versa. The crowd had a good 20,000 people by the time Bob Dylan came out.
This is the view from the outside. If you wonder, "Hey! Why does that look a lot like the American Eagle office building?" That's because it is.
And remember, wear earplugs. The volumes reach an easy 120 decibels. Enough to kill your hearing for life. (They did it on Mythbusters)

Great Band. I never really listened to them outside of "Crazy" which plays everywhere. In the middle of the performance, the lead singer jumped around so much and destroyed his shirt. How do I know this? He yelled out "I ripped my shirt playin' around with you guys." I saw it too, if that helps. Underneath is a video clip (no sound) of Gone Daddy Gone. In addition to famous bands playing at the festival, they had a contest for college bands. The winning band was called "The Black Fourties." I met them afterward (they were rooming on the same floor as my hotel.) They have never preformed outside of their college. Thats sweet. :)

My favorite exhibit was a giant wall that asked you to put your own art in a stitch pattern. Requirements: felt, marker, glue, and a political-ish message. Here was mine:

Remember the mirror maze I was talkin' about? The exhibit requires you to remove your shoes and then proceed through the hallway of darkness.... You actually weren't supposed to take pictures, but I found that out after I left. Oops. The exhibit is by a Japanese artist and features spotted lights, colored spots and more mannequins with spots then you can shake a stick at. Love it.

I love this artwork. A wooden shaft in the ground literally goes out the side of the building. The list of materials contains "view onto neighboring street." The exhibit is on display behind glass doors. They don't want suicides by art.

The Mattress Factory is...

...not what you think it is. It is an ancient factory for springy bedtime trampolines but a humongous environmental art museum (That's an art museum with really big art exhibits.) One such exhibit was "Crickets" Which has an audio and visual clip. You can see that post here. Anyhow, on the upper right is one very strange exhibit, featuring a line of wire-cars flying out a window. One really neat thing about the museum is that there is nobody there to help you. Most museums have guards and cameras and other intimidating stuff, but not here. If you are stuck in a floor with a hallway that suddenly turns pitch black (lower right,) you are left to yourself to find the way out and not kill the

exhibit by stepping on it. Some of the floors are a bit unnerving, and seem like you are going through a giant carnival funhouse. Who can say no?

P.S. This photo is no kidding what the floor looks like, and yes, this is obviously the part where the lights are on. Remember, if you go here, bring a flashlight.

This was an exhibit which featured a zillion ribbons with wishes on them, wished by children in third world countries in different languages. you tie a ribbon around your hand and once it falls off, you get your wish! Mine was in French, it said "I wish love would find me."

Pie is good, but when it gets in your eyes, it hurts. No, it's not real pie. That would be disgusting. What PROFESSIONALS use is shaving soap. It's cheap, washes off, and the worst it can do is get in your eyes. But then when you wash it off, it gets worse! Dun dun duhhhh...
Here is where they keep pie at close range, just in case. Heh... this isn't eccentric at all! Right?...

August sixth, 1945.
The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki set the Second World War to a close. After the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, the rejection of the Potsdam Declaration, and the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa in 1945, the Manhattan Project was in full swing; and under the finger of president Harry S. Truman; ready to drop the bomb anytime. The bombings were devastating, killing 400,000 people, much more then Japan killed in their war with America. It also destroyed almost all the infrastructure in two highly populated cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Although the bombings might have ended the war faster, Truman made an unjust decision, killing many innocent citizens.
The war with Japan began in December 1941, when Japanese planes bombed the Hawaiian navy base, Pearl Harbor. The attack affected the lives of over 4,000 people, and officially drove America into World War Two against Japan. The two countries had many fierce combats, but none as deadly as the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The battles, both fought in spring, 1945, gave America clear paths to Japan. America’s tactic was to bomb from the air, while the Japanese had no clear place to hide. This was the time in which the Japanese first started using kamikaze attacks and banzi charges, killing many, and ultimately committing suicide. In the end, the battles together killed over 26,000 people. 20,000 of them were Japanese (history.sandiego.edu).
Since Japan had wounded America, president Harry S. Truman commissioned a secret project to revenge Japan. Ideas were given, such as a starvation blockade, but that was turned down since it would take years, and was also inhumane. Another option was an invasion of Japan, which would be effective but “would cost America millions of causalities (PTP),” and much money. Truman finally decided it was best to build a bomb deadlier than the one Japan deployed on us. The project, directed by scientist J. Robert Oppenhimer, was named “The Manhattan Project,” and tried to build the worst bomb possible. The first bomb named “The Gadget” was tested on July 16th, 1945 at a site near Alamogordo, New Mexico. The bombing was a success, and America then had an efficient weapon to seek their revenge on Japan. On July 25th, Truman released The Potsdam Declaration, the terms for the Japanese surrender. Japan responded on July 28th, refusing all terms for capitulation, saying that no one possessed such a weapon. Little did they know, this little weapon, which nobody possessed, was about to change Japanese history forever.
August 6th, 1945 was a day no one would forget. Harry S. Truman commissioned the two bombs constructed in the Manhattan Project to be dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, two crowded Japanese cities with army bases. Together, they killed over 220,000 people, many of them innocent citizens. “The explosion was felt eleven miles away, and nine out of ten people half a mile away from ground zero were dead (http://www.cfo.doe.gov).” Japan surrendered six days later, swore never to use nuclear energy for war, and created the “Non-Nuclear Principles” which included to rely on America’s deterrent of atomic energy. The radiation from the bombs was so strong that over 100,000 died in the next few decades. As of 1978, over 1,000 a year were still suffering. Overall, the sum of every death is greater then the “death toll of every American soldier in WW2 (The Anti-Nuclear Handbook),” over 416, 800 lives.
After America saw the impact of the nuclear explosions in Japan, many asked if it was worth the time and effort. Although they bombs were devastating, they did end the war quicker then a longer war could have, but unlikely, seeing as this was a war between two countries. The decision to drop the bomb lay in the hands of Truman himself, and he chose the wrong option. However, the tragedy was not all Truman’s fault. Franklin Delano Roosevelt had already given the sign to start the Manhattan Project, while Germany and Russia were also trying to construct a bomb, only to have America attempt to defeat their enemies first. The reasons Truman had to back his decision, including Pearl Harbor, the ongoing war and the Potsdam Declaration, were simply not substantial enough reasons to destroy two of the most highly populated Japanese cities. A strategy, such as showing the power of the bomb on a deserted island might have caused the Japanese to surrender without any blood being spilt. On the other hand, the war was going on, and still killing many people. In short, something had to be done to end the war, but the persecution of bystanders was certainly not the way to accomplish it.
Overall, the atomic bombings of Japan were an unwise and unjust way to end the war. Although some of the other options were even more inhumane, the bombing was no better, ending the lives of hundreds of thousands of people and wounding even more for life. After the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, the Japanese still did not give up. The war needed to end somehow, and Truman and the bombings accomplished that. However, the explosion and the after effects killed much too many people for a war that could have been resolved more peacefully. Overall, the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were and unwise and unjust decision for Harry S. Truman to make.

I'm just typing this to tell everyone that I'm going to be gone for a few weeks. Instead of France this time, I'm going off to Craftsbury, Vermont and being a part of "Circus Smirkus" a non-profit youth circus. Google them! So, I saw Eliasson and the mirrored spotlight again. When I stepped to take a closer look my foot went inside the light and I was yelled at. Interesting. You can now own your own light. Next they'll be yelling at me for breathing in the Eliasson tinted air.

Olafur Eliasson: Waterfalls

Do you live in New York? Read this New York article, Olafur is coming to New York! With Waterfalls around various water themed landmarks, it sounds like something worth seeing. Olafur's work seems strongly influenced by waterfalls, including a reversed waterfall (you can see at PS1, and a waterfall coming out of a building (I don't know where but it's online) And another opportunity to go taking pictures of art. Hmmmmmmmmm.... I smell another blog series coming on... Keep posted!

Olafur Eliasson: The Yellow Light Room?

I admit, i don't know the name of this one, but the idea is that you can see normally, but once you ride an escalator, you are dropped into a pool of yellow lights that make everyone appear a chromo-color of yellow and black. Thats right, the guy you see is Bill Schilit, of Google fame. Nice guy too.

The PS1 annex is all the stuff MOMA didn't want, and it's in queens, and it's in a bad-ish neighborhood, so save your time. The stuff in Queens isn't that amazing. Worth going if you want to enshrine the artist, but not is you just like him, like me.

Tim Russert Dead at 58

Why Him? The NBC Washington Bureau Chief and moderator of "Meet The Press" Tim Russert was found dead at two in the afternoon after having a heart attack at work. Loved by newscasters and the general public alike, he has become a staple on news programs everywhere. I've been accustomed to seeing his face and hearing his comments on the news, now he is gone, right before this monumental election. It's sad that he just missed history that he has been reporting on for a while. Goodbye Tim, We'll miss you. Interesting what Friday the 13Th does for you.

I also went to the Metropolitan Museum with my wretched life. This type of art I was told is called "Benal" meaning an everyday object that everyone overlooks and then an artist turns it into a work of art and people pay millions to see it. Take these examples of a balloon dog and candy wrapper. I really love these works of art and even better, they get them onto the roof... by helicopter.
